The Nuthall
The Nuthall is a pub/restaurant that has been on our sniping list for some time now as it announces that they do 'homemade food', which usually means that they cook the chips in a real deep fat frier.
We were REALLY hungry and my eyes were immediately drawn to a steak and ale pie, but we decided nonetheless to put the homemade food theory to the test - so selecting our test meals, off we went to the bar.
We wanted a beer-battered fish peas and chips but WITHOUT the batter, and a chicken salsa WITHOUT the salsa but with barbeque sauce instead, and we waited for the excuses from the barman so that we could order our steak and ale pies.
'Yes, no problem', came the reply. 'Which table number?'. So we went back to the table with a right munk-on but ready to slam the food for being awful.
The food arrived and the presentation was super. I was expecting the fish to resemble a sorry looking kipper without the batter to disguise the true size, but both the meals were truly delicious. The chef made a point of sending the barman over for our opinions, meaning that he either wanted to see our thoughts on the quality, or to gloat, but we both said that the meals were an outstanding sample of food.
We shall definitely be visiting The Nuthall again in the future, knowing that we have now found another true gem. If you dont ask, you dont get, is a phrase that fits perfectly here, and the only mistake all around is that in a pub/restaurant you pay for your food in advance - if this place ever turns into a restaurant, the chef will be able to retire on his tips on this showing.
The best 'pub grub' in Nottingham that is way above 'pub grub' standard, and we look forward to to steak and ale on our next visit!

Re: The Nuthall
We finally got to go for our steak and ale pies this week and they did not disappoint at all. Do not mistake it for the 'two for a tenner' portions, go for the proper meal and you will be fully satisfied!
Re: The Nuthall
