Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Empty Team Great Britain

Post  Overseer Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:53 pm

Great Britain's women curlers stun China in opener ! Yay!

The British women's curling team made a great start to their Olympic campaign
with victory over world champions China in their opening round robin encounter.

Team GB edged a tight final end to clinch a 5-4 win on the last stone.

The British side, captained by 19-year-old Eve Muirhead,
are looking to emulate the Olympic success of 2002.

The GB women still have nine round robin matches left,
starting against defending champions Sweden at 0300 GMT on Thursday.

Muirhead said she was impressed with the atmosphere at
Vancouver Olympic Centre adding: 'The whole place is buzzing.
I won here at the World Juniors last year so hopefully we can take
every game as it comes and keep winning.'

The British men team meet France at 2200 GMT as they look to atone for
yesterday's 6-4 defeat by European champions Sweden.

The top four teams after the round robin stage advance to the semi-finals.

We wish you all the very best, win, win, WIN! Bring medals home, Team GB bring
a gold home! Cheers x

Women Curlers Steal The Show Against Russia!

The women gave their Olympic campaign a boost this afternoon making short work of Russia to win 10-3 forcing them to concede after only eight ends.

Russia who finished fourth in the 2009 European Championships had lost their opening round-robin game to Germany yesterday, but came back last night tonight to beat Denmark to lie fourth in the standing after two games along with Great Britain, China and Japan.

However an impressive performance from across the rink saw Great Britain steal a two in the first end when Muirhead played and incredible draw to the button with her first stone to force the Russian skip Privivkova to attempt the same. The draw proved to be too difficult, allowing Great Britain to surge into the lead. This was followed by a steal three in the second, to be 5-0 up after two. The Russians clawed back ones in each of the next two ends, before Muirhead’s rink stole a further two shots in both the fifth and sixth to lead 9-2.

The damage was done by this stage and it was only a question of time before the Russian’s conceded the game 10-3 after eight ends.

The win was all the more impressive for the fact that Kelly Wood retired from the ice unwell after the second end and was replaced by fifth player Annie Laird who came on to make her Olympic debut.

Clearly having enjoyed the game Great Britain skip Eve Muirhead said, 'We’re delighted with that win. We had a good start in that game, which is what we’re trying to do. We came out sharp and were five up after two ends. From then on, you’re just heading for home, and that’s what we did.

'The first game yesterday was a wee bit anxious, but we’re on our way now. We’re just trying to get those inches here and there and move forward.
We’re having fun – we’re here to relax, have fun, and enjoy it. I love being in big stadiums and the atmosphere is fantastic.'

Pleased to have made her Olympic debut Annie Laird added, 'It was nerve-wracking to start with, but I was prepared so it was fine. It was a good start for me.'
Nancy Murdoch, Women’s Team Coach was equally delighted with the result and the performance saying, “We came out the traps this afternoon and put pressure on Russia and that way we knew we would force some mistakes.

'We showed we had the ability to play the shots so I am really delighted that the girls have come back and got win number two on the board'.

Great Britain now has two wins from three and are third equal in the standings along with Germany who they play tomorrow followed by Japan.

Another win, way to go GB! Keep up the good work, win a medal now!

Cheers x

Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Empty Breaking News...UK breaks their drough after 30 years!

Post  Overseer Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:51 pm

Wooohooo! Team GB has just won a medal, a Gold Medal! Yay!

Amy Williams roared to Britain's first Olympic gold medal in an individual winter event since 1980 in the women's skeleton after two more scintillating runs down the Whistler track.

The ice cool speed queen smashed the women's course record on Thursday to hold the midway lead and went even faster in heat three to widen the gap to the chasing pack led by Canadian favourite Mellisa Hollingsworth.

With a 0.52 second cushion going into her final slide Williams kept it clean through the 16 curves to win Britain's first Winter Games gold from an individual sport since Robin Cousins won the figure skating title at Lake Placid in 1980.

Hollingsworth's gold medal dream ended in despair when she crunched into a wall in the middle of her final run meaning Germany's Kerstin Szymkowiak took the silver and compatriot Anja Huber the bronze.

Amy Williams has just made GB proud, she won a Gold medal
for Womens Skelteon in the Vancouver Winter Games 2010!

Team GB's Amy Williams wins the skeleton gold medal at the Whistler Sliding Centre. Williams produced four consistently fast runs to win the competition in a cumulative time of 3:35.64, more than half a second faster than her German rivals who placed second and third.

What a proud and bright shining moment for Amy Williams for Team Great Britain!

Amy Williams bring home Britain's first Gold in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in
Vancouver, BC; Canada.

Britain's Amy Williams shattered the Whistler track record to lead the way after two heats of the women's skeleton as she eyed winning her country's first gold of the Vancouver Olympics.

The 27-year-old world silver medalist's set a new track record of 53.83sec on the 1,450-metre course at Whistler's Sliding Centre on Thursday, tearing down the piste at 143.3 kph.

"I didn't even realise that was a record," said Williams.

She maintained her lead after the second run, timing 54.13sec for an overall 1:47.96 to lead pre-race favourite Mellisa Hollingworth of Canada by 0.39sec.

World Cup leader Hollingworth, who won five of the six training runs here, was third, 0.09sec behind second-placed Kerstin Szymkowiak of Germany.

Britain have tradition in the skeleton, with Shelley Rudman having won silver at the Turin Olympics in 2006, the country's only medal of the Games.

While Rudman won a European Championships bronze last month Williams came to Vancouver on a medal mission having missed out, placing sixth in the European standings and fifth in the World Cup.

Rudman was Thursday off the pace at 0.96sec going into Friday's final two runs while defending champion Maya Pedersen was only 12th after trailing in 1.4sec adrift of Williams.

"I've never been confident on this track and though I thought I could crack a few of the corners today, I'm still having a few problems," said Rudman.

Reigning world champion Marion Trott of Germany could only manage tenth as she also failed to rise to the occasion.

The opening run was delayed for more than half an hour as sunny conditions had softened the ice, which began to harden sufficiently once again as the sun went down.

Officials, meanwhile, disqualified Japanese racer Nozomi Komuro for not having a mandatory control sticker on her sled.

Amy Williams is a super awesome Olympic champion! Now both UK and Canada have broken their drought jinz records! Yay! Congrats all around! This IS the year to Believe!
I Believe!

Cheers and big congratulations to Amy Williams! You go girl x
The Olympics rock!

Canada's Women ruled the game, shut out the yanks.
Canada's Women Hockey won the Gold medal, they are
the true champions of the world now!

Canada defeated United States 2-0 in Thursday's Vancouver Winter Olympics women's ice hockey gold medal final, giving the hosts their third consecutive crown. The Americans, reigning world champions, settled for a silver medal while Finland took the bronze with an earlier 3-2 over-time triumph over Sweden.

Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice in the first period and goaltender Shannon Szabados made 28 saves to give Canada a 2-0 victory over the United States in Thursday's Winter Olympic gold medal final.

The Canadians captured their third consecutive Olympic crown by defeating the two-time reigning world champions in a border war arch-rivalry between the sport's only two women's powers.

Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Empty They beat them yanks!

Post  Overseer Sun Feb 28, 2010 4:26 pm

Woooohoooo! Team Canada Mens Hockey beat the yanks!
What an exciting game and awesome game!
Canada wins 3 -2 against those yanks!

All the world wanted Canada to win, only the yanks wanted the yanks
(team U.S.A) to win. Everyone knows whos better and lets be
honest now, no prejudice, but no one actually likes those yanks, eh?

Canada has won another Gold Medal.
Canada actually broke the record of the most Gold medals
any home host has won on home soil.

Even more impressive is that they also beat the yanks
in the most Gold medals total, Canada now own the Gold medal
podium for 14 Golds in total for the Olympic 2010 Winter Games.

From a country who had never won a gold on their home soil
ever before, scores, and wins 14 Golds in total.
Now thats quite an accomplishment and great
pride for a country whos spirit just shined all over
the world with their true spirit and pride.

Cheers to all the athletes of Team Canada x Well done, bravo!
Cheers and big congratulations Canada x

Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Empty Torch Relay

Post  Overseer Mon Mar 01, 2010 12:44 am

Then torch relay is done in every city in England, by water, by foot, by train,
by bus, and by tea tray. Examples are shown below from Canada's
footage...

For example let say the Olympic Flame arrives first in Nottingham, then travels
by relay to every city/town far and wide until it reaches its final destination...
London, England.

Carry the tradion, carry the torch, hold the honour, feel the pride, and let
England shine x

Imagine this, then muliply a million times better!
